Hedgehog is a Maltese education start-up working hard to make critical thinking the norm in a world where it has become optional.
Hedgehog is a digital platform for schools, for use on laptops and classroom devices.
We set out to build a platform for schools that equips students to solve problems independently and challenge them at a personalised level of difficulty.
We started with homework, making sure that achieving learning outcomes is prioritised, rather than completing a checkbox exercise. Students equipped to answer questions on their own and guided where needed - but never spoonfed the answer.
For teachers
Teachers who use Hedgehog are equipped to identify where students need help early, while there is still time to address issues.
It is effortless for them to assign homework using their existing worksheets and material, or create new exercises following syllabus content.
What we believe
Struggle is where real learning happens
Students should be challenged at the right level of difficulty which is personalised to them - demanding enough to challenge them, not so much that they are overwhelmed.
A teacher's judgement cannot be replaced
Assessment, mentoring, deciding what a student needs next - this is all human work, which we'll never aim to replace. Our objective is to equip teachers with the tools to do their best work.
Achieving learning outcomes is the goal
We don't assign grades, or deliver exercises to tick checkboxes. For Hedgehog, understanding is the measure of success.
